The National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) is a special program by the Government of India. It is handled by the Department of School Education & Literacy, which works under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). This scholarship program helps students from families with limited income to continue their education. The goal is to support bright students financially so that they do not drop out after the elementary level.
Each selected student under this scheme gets Rs. 12,000 every year to help with school expenses. Every year, around 100,000 scholarships are given to students across India. The scholarship is available to students who are studying in Class 9 and can be renewed every year up to Class 12. However, students from certain schools, like Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), and private schools, are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
